Spotlight: Keynote speaker Dr. Linda Goldenhar

What do safety climate, safety culture and safety leadership have to do with the prevention of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs)? In this engaging keynote, Dr. Linda Goldenhar of the Silver Spring, MD.-based Center for Construction Research and Training will share her thoughts on the link. She will also discuss research that led her and her team to develop a safety climate leading indicator workbook and measurement tool, and how these could be used to help contractors, safety and health professionals and others reduce MSDs and other work-related injuries in the construction sector and beyond.

New social event: Toronto Islands tour

They’ve been described as Toronto’s hidden gems—and for good reason. Just a short ferry ride from Toronto’s harbourfront, the Toronto Islands offer a quick getaway to the green spaces and idyllic car-free existence of Ward’s Island’s residential community. On Monday, June 20, join a group of PREMUS 2016 delegates on a tour of the Island’s beaches and boardwalks, with long-time Island resident (and director of Ontario’s Office of the Worker Adviser) Alec Farquhar as your guide. Space is limited.

Thanks to CIHR IMHA, a PREMUS 2016 partner

MSDs affect 11 million Canadians over the age of 12 years old every year, a number that’s expected to increase with the aging boomer population. At the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)’s Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (IMHA), the mandate is to enhance active living, mobility and movement, and oral health by supporting research into the causes, prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, support systems and palliation for a wide range of conditions related to bones, joints, muscles, connective tissue, skin and teeth. Three strategic research priorities help guide the Institute’s decision-making: chronic pain and fatigue; inflammation and tissue repair; and disability, mobility and health.
