KTE Associate (full-time, permanent)

The Institute for Work & Health (IWH) is an independent, not-for-profit research organization. Our mission is to promote, protect and improve the safety and health of working people by conducting actionable research that is valued by employers, workers and policy-makers.

The Institute is currently seeking a qualified person for the position of Knowledge Transfer & Exchange (KTE) Associate.

About the position

The KTE Associate works closely with other members of the IWH KTE and Communications Teams and with IWH researchers to initiate, develop and implement activities to make research evidence available and accessible for practice, planning and policy making. They manage stakeholder interactions for multiple research projects, acting as a liaison between the research team members and project stakeholders. They also develop and maintain stakeholder relationships to help inform IWH research and ensure the uptake and use of IWH evidence. The KTE Associate reports directly to the Knowledge Transfer & Exchange Manager.

Core duties and responsibilities 

The KTE Associate has duties and responsibilities in three broad areas.

A) Stakeholder engagement

  • Coordinate and manage outreach to stakeholders to gain their involvement in research grant proposals and projects
  • Develop knowledge transfer and exchange plans for research projects and meetings
  • Support the development of evidence-based, stakeholder-informed resources
  • Identify stakeholder research needs, responding to stakeholder inquiries and requests

B) Outreach and event management

  • Plan and provide support for IWH events, including monthly IWH Speaker Series webinars
  • Promoting IWH research and products at stakeholder events and meetings

C) Communication about IWH evidence

  • Write and edit KTE plans and plain-language summaries of research
  • Employ social media platforms to disseminate IWH research/products

Education, experience and skills

  • A master’s degree in a public health, occupational health/safety or disability prevention field an asset
  • Experience in a health, safety or disability-related field, or within a research environment, an asset
  • At least five years of relevant experience in stakeholder engagement
  • Demonstrated ability to connect with stakeholders and build relationships
  • Strong facilitation and presentation skills
  • Excellent writing and editing skills; advanced ability to write in plain language
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines for multiple projects
  • Good understanding of research methods
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment  
  • Strong skills in Microsoft applications such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook
  • Familiarity with social media, webinar and website platforms
  • A passion to contribute to the generation and sharing of high-quality research to improve the health of workers  

Salary range

Salary will depend on qualifications and experience and will be in the range of $70,000 to $80,000, plus group benefits, four weeks’ annual vacation, and enrolment in a leading defined-benefit pension plan. Suitability for the position will be assessed at six months.
