Abstract

In this commentary we provide a critique of the bio-ecological model and the supporting evidence, including how cognitive assets of youth are systematically ignored. Indirect epidemiological evidence that suggests that developmental factors appear to make at best a minor contribution to the elevated work injury risk of youth is reviewed. Ways in which work injury may be different from other settings where youth are at risk for injuries is also discussed. It is concluded that until developmental research specific to work injuries is conducted, caution should be used in extrapolating from research from other areas
