Dr. Tony LaMontagne

Dr. Tony LaMontagne is a professor of work, health and wellbeing in the Institute for Health Transformation and the School of Health & Social Development, at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. He is also an honorary professorial fellow at the University of Melbourne's School of Population and Global Health, and a research affiliate at the Center for the Promotion of Health in the New England Workplace at the University of Massachusetts (USA).
LaMontagne’s career has been dedicated to developing the scientific and public understanding of work as a social determinant of health, and translating this research into policy and practice to improve workplace and worker health. Specific areas of interest include workplace mental health, improving job quality and psychosocial working conditions, and the design and evaluation of workplace interventions. His research has influenced policy and practice in workplace health both nationally and internationally, including occupational health and safety authorities, mental health organizations, the (Australian) National Mental Health Commission, the US Occupational Safety & Health Administration, the US CDC National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health, the International Labour Organization, and the World Health Organization.
LaMontagne earned an MA in molecular toxicology from Harvard University, a master's of education from the University of Massachusetts, and a doctor of science in occupational and environmental health from the Harvard School of Public Health.
