The Institute for Work & Health is pleased to announce Kim Froats as the new chair of its board of directors and Sandra Miller as its new vice-chair.

Froats, a board member since September 2022, is director of health and safety at Aultsville Management Consultants. He was elected last month into the role previously held by Kate Lamb.

Sandra Miller is former vice-president of strategy and governance at Workplace Safety & Prevention Services. She first joined the board in October 2024.

Remarking on the board change, WH president Dr. Peter Smith thanks Kate Lamb for her contribution as chair since September 2021. “Kate has been a champion for IWH and has led the Board with distinction during her time as chair. I am grateful that she will continue to remain as a Board member,” says Smith.

Lamb, who remains a board member, says it has been a privilege to serve as chair of “this national institution."

“IWH continues to demonstrate excellence in research and knowledge sharing to advance the health and wellbeing of Ontario's workers and workplaces,” adds Lamb. “I look forward to continuing to participate as a board member for the next three years.”

The governance and fiduciary oversight the IWH receives from its Board of Directors is one of the Institute’s key strengths, says Smith. “The tripartite nature of our Board enables us to be independent, as well as giving us the flexibility to quickly address emerging topics in the work and health space,” he adds.

He welcomes Froats and Miller into their new roles. “I look forward to working with them to continue to create and mobilize research that makes Ontario’s workplaces safer, healthier and more productive.”
