Knowledge Transfer & Exchange Associate

The Institute for Work & Health is an independent, not-for-profit research organization. Our mission is to promote, protect and improve the safety and health of working people by conducting actionable research that is valued by employers, workers and policy-makers. Since 1990, we have been providing research results and producing evidence-based products to inform the prevention and management of work-related injury and illness. The Institute is currently seeking a qualified person to fill the position of Knowledge Transfer & Exchange (KTE) Associate.

About the position

Reporting to the Manager, Knowledge Transfer & Exchange, the KTE Associate will work closely with the KTE team and IWH researchers to initiate, develop and implement KTE activities to make research evidence available and accessible for practice, planning and policy-making. The KTE Associate will manage stakeholder interactions for multiple funded research projects, acting as a liaison between the research team members and project partners and advisory committees. The KTE Associate will also develop and maintain stakeholder relationships and networks of key audiences to help inform IWH research and ensure the uptake and use of IWH evidence.

Principle duties and responsibilities

The following are the principle duties and responsibilities of the KTE Associate across three areas of work:

1. Stakeholder engagement

In collaboration with researchers, the KTE Manager, other KTE Associates and research staff, the KTE Associate will help to develop and build relationships with key stakeholders (e.g. health and safety associations, workplace parties, disability managers, occupational health and safety professionals and policy-makers). This may include the following.

• Engaging stakeholders in research grant proposals
• Developing knowledge transfer and exchange plans for research projects
• Planning and facilitating project advisory meetings
• Supporting study participant recruitment
• Supporting the development of evidence-based resources
• Managing Institute networks, including networks of workplace parties and health practitioners
• Identifying stakeholder research needs and responding to stakeholder inquiries and request

2. Outreach and event management

• Exhibiting IWH resources at stakeholder events, and actively engaging and connecting with stakeholders while promoting IWH news and products
• Finding opportunities for presenting IWH research at non-academic stakeholder events
• Providing technical and organizational support for IWH webinar events

3. Communicating about IWH evidence

• Writing or editing KTE plans and reviewing project reports
• Writing plain-language summaries
• Creating and implementing dissemination activities
• Employing IWH social media platforms to disseminate IWH research/products

Education and experience

• Master’s degree in a public health, occupational health or a disability management field an asset
• At least five years of relevant experience in stakeholder engagement and management
• Demonstrated ability to engage external stakeholders
• Sound understanding of research methods
• Strong presentation and facilitation skills
• Excellent writing and editing skills
• Excellent multi-tasking skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines
• Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment
• Familiarity with electronic communication tools such as webinars
• Professional training and practice experience in a field relevant to the prevention of work disability an asset

Salary range

Salary will depend on qualifications and experience, and will be in the range of $69,000 to $78,000. Suitability for the position will be assessed at six months.
